Actinobacteria days

The actinobacteria days are organized every two years. They enable the scientific community working on actinobacteria to take stock of major advances in genetics, physiology and chemistry. The next conference entitled ACTINO2017 will take place in the great metropolis of Lyon from 18 to 20 October 2017.

Actinobacteria play a major ecological role and an equally important societal role. At the ecological level, these bacteria are essential in biogeochemical processes by fixing atmospheric nitrogen or in the carbon cycle by holding numerous hydrolytic enzymes as a saprophytic microorganism. They constitute an essential group of ecosystems (soils, marine or lake ecosystems, intestinal microbiota) and interact with various organisms (plants, insects, human) by establishing beneficial (Bifidobacterium, Streptomyces, Micromonospora), symbiotic (Frankia), commensal (Propionibacterium) or pathogenic (Nocardia, Mycobacterium, Rhodococcus) interactions.

At the societal level, they are exploited to produce important bioactive compounds (antibiotic, antifungal, anticancer, antiparasite, enzymatic inhibitors, etc.), hydrolytic enzymes (pectinase, xylanase, cellulase, etc.) or lipids (catalyst, bioenergy ) for pharmaceutical, industrial or agronomic purposes.

This conference aims to bring together researchers interested in actinobacteria, highlighting the latest advances in biotechnology and applied sciences. The diversity of these actinobacteria and their metabolites, their roles in ecosystems and in particular their interaction with other organisms, new discoveries in the regulation of their physiology and production of bioactive compounds, and finally the spin-offs in human or agronomic health will constitute the main components of this conference.
